How do you motivate a team member?

If you are the manager, the one thing you can do that is motivating everyone is listening.

A lot of times we're in a busy environment where a lot of things go on and people are just not feeling listened to. Spend the time, listen to people. Really go into and try to understand where the person is, what's going on with that person. It's not necessarily that you tell the person, hey, why are you not motivated?

Try to figure out what's going, and sometimes they're stressed. Sometimes there's a personal situation at home, which you as the manager maybe don't know.

And when you understand this, then it's as well working with them on topics they like. There are a lot of things which need to get done in an organization, but you as the leader can decide to whom you delegate what. Delegate tasks that are interesting for the person, but as well challenging. How do you give someone a challenging task where they need to step up a little bit, but as well that they're able to do that.

Over conversation finding out what is limiting their motivation because that's what you want to figure out.

It is not about confronting the person. Because that is just your perception and you don't know what's going on. So you as a leader need to dig deeper and try to find out what is going on with that person. Why is this person not motivated.
